Eye care – about you
Dr Sean Cheng is a Consultant Vitreoretinal Surgeon specialising in surgical diseases of the retina such as retinal detachment, macular hole, epiretinal membrane and diabetic eye diseases. He also provides a comprehensive eye care service including cataracts, general ophthalmology and ocular trauma.
Prior to commencing medical training, Dr Cheng was awarded First Class Honours in Engineering by the University of Queensland.
Dr Cheng completed general ophthalmology training in Queensland. Following this he undertook two more years of cornea, cataract, oculoplastics and general ophthalmology senior registrar training in Princess Alexandra and Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospitals.
He then travelled to the United Kingdom to complete his subspecialty Vitreoretinal Fellowship under the auspices of Professor Dick and Mr Haynes at Bristol Eye Hospital and the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

Dr Cheng is a Consultant Vitreoretinal Surgeon covering both the Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital and the Princess Alexandra Hospital with Queensland Health. He is an Senior Lecturer with University of Queensland and is involved in training the next generation of eye doctors in Queensland.
Dr Cheng volunteers his time to aid in community projects and acts as a medical advisor for Braille House.
